You may notice USDT yields are often 0.5% to 1.5% higher than USDC yields on the same protocol. In DeFi, this is known as the "Tether Premium".
Why does this happen?
USDT is the most liquid stablecoin for trading (especially on CEXs and Tron), creating massive borrowing demand from market makers. However, some Western institutions prefer USDC for its transparency. This slight imbalance—high demand but slightly more fragmented supply on Ethereum DeFi—often drives up the APY for lenders.
Strategy: If you are comfortable with Tether's risk profile, lending USDT on layer-2s like Arbitrum or Optimism often yields the highest risk-adjusted returns due to incentive programs.
